BILINGUAL YEAR 1 AND YEAR 2

In Year 1 and Year 2, students follow a bilingual programme based on a half-day rhythm. For example, if the morning classes are instructed in English, the afternoon classes are instructed in French, or vice versa. Each child therefore has two main teachers: a French-speaking teacher and an English-speaking teacher.

MONTESSORI PEDAGOGY

We use Montessori pedagogy which is based on the importance of sensory awakening (children learn better by using all of their senses) and on self-discipline (children learn to work independently for themselves). Students learn by actively discovering things by themselves, at their own pace. Montessori pedagogy promotes learning as it reinforces independence, initiative, and concentration. Montessori material allows children to perceive, understand and memorise curricular information by using their senses. It is designed to allow children to approach abstract notions in a concrete and sensory way. It is used through manipulation and independent work, the goal being to put the student at the centre of their own learning.

READING USING SYLLABLES

Children start to learn how to read in Year 1 using the syllabic method, in French as well as in English. Volunteers give their time to support the teachers by reading individually with each child several times a week.
